Triathlon Community Coaching Course

Triathlon NL in conjunction with Triathlon Canada is working on a 2-day Community Coaching course for both current and potential athletes and coaches in Newfoundland & Labrador. While geared towards recreational and novice level competitive coaching, this course will also be of great benefit to event organizers, race directors and other sport leaders.

Some key topics to be covered include:
  • ethical issues that arise with adult populations (group and individual)
  • safety scenarios including how to prepare for training and racing in both hot and cold climates
  • holistic coaching
  • technical foundations in swimming, cycling, running, and transitions
  • common drills used to train technical areas in swimming, cycling, and running
  • instructional strategies to apply when teaching and learning skills
  • principles of training applied to triathlon
  • introduction to principles of planning
Course completion will result in the participant receiving a TRAINED status as a Community Adult Coach in the NCCP system as there is no evaluation at the Community level. This is the first in a series of 3 required courses to receive full NCCP Triathlon coaching certification.

Course cost per participant will be $175 and possible dates are January 30/31 2010 or February 27/28 2010 in St.John's. If you are interested please reply to admin@trinl.com indicating your preferred date.
