Meet the team representing the province of Newfoundland and Labrador for the sport of Triathlon at the 2013 Canada Summer Games in Sherbrook, Quebec, August 10th - 18th.
After 3 years and 4 training camps, the team now comprises the following athletes:
Nathan Wilson is originally a swimmer but got into triathlon on a whim with his mother and has absolutely loved it ever since. He is currently studying Math at the University of Waterloo where we trains with the UW Tri Club and is a member of the UW Varsity Swim Team. Nathan is also works as a swim coach, having worked for the St. John's Legends for 3 years and now working for the Club Warriors team in Waterloo while he is at school. Nathan is very excited about the opportunity to train with the Canada Games Triathlon Team is looking forward to racing this year.
Peter Gregory is co-captain of the MUN Sea-Hawks Varsity Swim Team. He is studying Biochemistry at MUN and volunteers with Special Olympics as Swim Coach.
Marty Whelan is a graduating student from Gonzaga High School as well as a member of the CSG2013 Triathlon team. Over the past few years, he has developed a strong interest in triathlon and is very happy to have this opportunity. He hopes to set a good example for TriNL in the games and to perform to his potential in each of the races. Lets go Newfoundland and Labrador!
Landon Fisher has been competing in the sport of triathlon since the age 8, starting with kids of steel race series and then moving on to competing in the St. Johns, Gander, Carbonear, Corner Brook and Torbay triathlon. He also competed in the sport of cycling for which he went to the 2009 Canada Summer Games in Prince Edward Island and the sport of Cross Country Skiing for which he went to the 2011 Canada Winter Games in Halifax. He is currently completing his second year of Mechanical Engineer at Memorial University where he also competes on the varsity Sea-Hawks Cross Country Running team. He enjoys competing against myself and others and strive towards personal bests in both academics and sport
Rebecca O'Leary is 19 years old and is attending McGill University where she just finished her first year. She was a member of the St. John's Legends swim team for 10 years, so her athletic background is mainly swimming. She has now competed in triathlons the past three summers.
Olivia Smith is 17 and lives in Conception Bay South, she is currently attending Holy Spirit High School as a level 2 student. She has been a swimming on the C.B.S Bluefins swim team for the past 5 years, she runs for her school on the cross country team as well as track and field team. In her spare time she enjoys watching movies, kayaking and long boarding when she gets the chance. Olivia is thrilled to be part of the Canada Games Team and cannot wait to compete.
Emily McIlroy loves to do Triathlons in the summer and ski in the winter. In her down time she likes knitting and sewing. Emily is very excited to be a part of this group!
