Transitions are the fourth sport in Triathlon and yours will improve with practice. Take a walk around the transition area and see how other people set up their stuff. And the night before just run through the entire event in your mind to make sure you have everything packed. Most important though ... relax and enjoy the morning ... you will love the sport!

Tragic. Saddening. It strikes a chord when you hear of this kind of thing happening to anyone, let alone someone you can identify with. And you know that even though you're being as safe as you can... something like this can happen anyway.

+1 to your comment Jenn. I 'feel' safer on the Outer Ring than say, Southern Shore Highway, Thorburn Rd, Portugal Cove Road around Windsor Lake... any road without a paved shoulder. I had a propane truck pass within inches at speed on Portugal Cove Rd... startling... I've had tanden dump trucks passing awfully close to (perhaps riding) the white line on Pitts Memorial... even though I'm close to three feet in it's startling.

Steve, as a cyclist, I feel safest on the Outer Ring Road with the wide shoulders. Much safer then on other roads with no shoulders. But, we all have to be careful out there, no matter where we ride.

It certainly was a horrible accident and it makes you realize the dangers that do exist out there for everyone on bikes.

This is exactly why I never ride on the outer ring road... I know the road has wide paved shoulders but motorists are whipping by at 150 km/h... People who ride on the outer ring are crazy!

Nobody likes reading news stories like this at the beginning of another cycling season. Thoughts go out to the families of the victims.

I can't believe that someone is whining that about the drive home. Are you sure that you are a triathlete? Whatever happened to "Anything is Possible"?
The Tri community is all about the doing and not about the excuses. C'mon, get in that car and make the drive. You won't regret it!
