Canada Summer Games 2021
Team Selection Update – Summer 2019
Athletes & Parents of Athletes:

The team selection process for athletes representing Newfoundland and Labrador in triathlon at the Canada Summer Games in 2021 begins this summer. Eligible athletes will have been born in the years 2001 – 2005.

The focus in 2019 will be in identifying a group of between 10 and 20 athletes who will form the Games Training Squad for the next two years. The training squad will receive coaching in each discipline of the the sport as well as strength and conditioning training. This training will be integrated as much as possible with other sport activities in which the athletes may be participating.

Athletes will be invited to the training squad based on results and performance at triathlon events this summer. The following events have age and distance categories appropriate for athletes seeking to join the training squad:
Carbonear Tri & Try-a-Tri – Carbonear – July 21
Humber Valley Triathlon – Pasadena – August 4
St. John’s Sprint Triathlon – St. John’s – August 11
Paradise Tri & Try-a-Tri – Paradise – August 25
Athletes should choose a distance up to that appropriate for their age. Under 16 are limited to try-a-tri distances, or single segments of a relay event. 16 and up can choose Try-a-Tri or sprint distance events.

Triathlon NL is awaiting word on funding for a training camp to be held on August 24th in conjunction with the Paradise Triathlon. More information on the camp will be made available in the next few weeks.

Our provincial coaches will be responsible for team development: Will Duggan and Stephanie Nevin.

We look forward to seeing each of you at events this summer!
