The 2019 Body Quest Paradise Triathlon took place Sunday, August 25th. The cool temperatures, sunny skies and calm winds made great race conditions. Nearly 100 participants competed in the sprint, team relay and try-a-tri races!
William Duggan won the sprint race completing the 750m swim, 20km bike and 5km run in 1:07:35. Runner-up was Stephen Dyke finishing three minutes behind in 1:10:42. Stephanie Nevin rounded out the top three and was the winner of the women’s race in 1:13:56.
Patrick Griffin was the third male finisher and fourth overall in 1:16:50. Joanne Budgell and Julianna Marshall were the second and third place females in 1:24:09 and 1:24:48, respectively.
The try-a-tri race consisted of a 300m swim, 7km bike and 3km run. Many young triathletes competed in this race to gain experience for the 2020 NL Summer Games and 2021 Canada Games. Roughan Gaetz was the winner in 32:08, he was the fastest competitor in all three disciplines! Runner-up was Alex Chislett in 38:32 followed by third place finisher Emily Noseworthy in 43:33.
Team ‘Caribou Herd’ (Jeff Williams, Todd Puddicombe and Mark Howell) won the team relay completing the sprint course in 1:15:48. The ‘TRI Fighters’ (Tim Healey and Sean Dawe) came second in 1:16:58 followed by ‘Tri to be a Hickman’ (Kimberley Hickman, Jack Hickman and Karla Harris) third in 1:29:13.
