The Kids of Steel event will take place on regatta day, Wednesday, August 7th followed by the Triathlon on Sunday, August 11th. This year is the 35th anniversary of the race and a qualifier for the 2020 ITU World Championships being held in Edmonton, Alberta. The male and female winners of each age group in both the sprint and standard distances will earn the right to represent Canada at these championships. Only full annual members of Triathlon NL are eligible to earn a qualifying spot.
The standard race includes a 1.5 km (2 x 750 m loop) swim in Healey’s Pond, a 46 km (2 x 23 km loop) bike around Windsor Lake and finishing off with a 10 km (2 x 5 km loop) run through the beautiful park trails and along Bennett’s Road (the sprint race includes one loop of each discipline).
Relay teams may compete in the standard distance triathlon (2 or 3 members).
Race organizers are planning on including a Swim/Bike (Aquabike) as well as a Bike/Run (Duathlon) but plans are still being worked out on those.
